Are we done yet...... Let get Married!!!!

I have to say I have been a bad bad blogger. I apologize. There has been kind of a lot going on lately.


I mentioned a while back that Javi was not happy at his job. Well the day finally came when he got home and told me he was done. He has been unemployed for a week now and is looking for work elsewhere. He is a little stressed not having money coming in right now but I can tell he is happy about his decision to leave. So while he has all this time off we have been working on getting paperwork done to get married!!


I have to say it is becoming a pain in our behinds, not to mention all the money that we have to put out for everything. A few months back my mom sent my paperwork in for the Appotille for my Birth certificate, so we already had that ready. Next we decided to get married in the state of Michoacan instead of Jalisco because the amount of paperwork and requirements would be less. So taking this into account we found out we had to take a trip to the town of Morelia (which is a five hour bus ride away) to get a permission from the state saying that we could get married because I am American. Like all our trips this was an adventure in itself. 
We left around 8 am last Thursday morning and arrived in Morelia around 120. By the time we found the INS (immigration) office it had already closed. We could not believe the office was only open from 9am to 1pm. So we decided to get a hotel room for the night and go back early the next morning.Luckily our taxi driver took us to a decent hotel and offered to pick us up the next morning and take us back to the office.The hotel was nice and across the street was a grocery store and some places to eat, only bad part of the night was the three busloads of kids who played soccer in the halls until 1130 in the night.


This whole trip was a little bit of a pain because we were kind of walking into this a little blind. Going off of info different people had given us and not really knowing what to expect. I brought all the paperwork that I had with me : Our Birth Certs, my passport, visa, apostilled paperwork. We were told to be back at the office early because there was always a line to get in and they closed so early. So we arrive at the office at 730 and wait until 9 for the place to open. Of course no one shows up until about 945. 


The office opens, we are the first ones in and get the instructions telling us all the other paperwork we would need before they would type up the permission. Including all the paperwork we had with us we needed copies of everything, copy of Javis ID, a typed up letter, a printed out paper from their website, the money to pay and six copies of the receipt of payment. We had to have the name of the person who would marry us, location, parents names, ages, addresses, and day we were to have the ceremony.

It took awhile but we were able to get everything else they had requested. Of course we were the first to get there and almost the last ones to leave. We were there for a total of 7 hours waiting and getting paperwork together. It was a long day, good thing I had a few snacks in my purse because we never left that office. We had no idea it would take that long, everyone else had received their paperwork and had left so we did not want to leave to delay things more.

Luckily we decided to go to Morelia when we did because the following Monday they decided to take two weeks off for some holiday. Only bad part was we found out the lady at the registro civil where we were to be married was let go because she was giving out bad information and not doing her job right. Then we started freaking out because her name was on all our paperwork. We immediately thought we would have to go back to Morelia and re due everything. After explaining everything to the judge who nicely said that she would do the paperwork anyway because it was not our fault the way everything had played out we were able to relax and start on the rest of the requirements. Yes that's right there's more!!!

So we are still working on getting everything done and hopefully we will be able to finish by tomorrow. That means that we could be getting married this week!!! Yeah, I am so excited. I had to share the big news with all of you and will be back with more news soon.

Here is a list of everything we needed for the Permiso from the state of Morelia:

1. Passport and Visa(I had six month tourist visa) They wanted copies of both of these.

2. Copies of Javi's ID and Birth certificate.

3. Letter with all our info(they let us use a templet in the office and put all our answers in). They want both of your names, ages, parents names, addresses, name of person who will marry you, and place of registro civil.

4. A printed out sheet from INS website with the same info you put into the letter including passport information. (we were also able to complete this in the office)

5. A payment of 3000 pesos from a nearby bank with 6 copies of the receipt.

This is a list of requirements from Registro Civil in state of Michoacan:

1. Apostilled Birth Certificate translated into Spanish. ($25 for Apostilled paperwork, $40 for translation)

2. Copies of Javi's Birth Certificate and ID.  (All copies were less than $10)

3. Blood work from the Seguro popular ($45 for blood work and paperwork)

4.The permiso from Morelia  ($300 for permiso, $300 for food, hotel and bus ride)

5.Payment for the actual marriage. (? we still have to find out the price of this)

6. 4 Witnesses other than parents.
